Lighting and Your Kitchen

As you can probably imagine I think about what I am going to write in this article all of the time and just today I had a bright idea. You know, that proverbial light bulb went off over my head. I haven’t written about lighting and your kitchen. I don’t profess to be a lighting expert but lighting is a significant part of designing a kitchen so I thought I would share some ideas with you.

As I am sure you can imagine there are many ways to light your kitchen. To name a few of the obvious ones there are ceiling lights for your everyday lighting. Lights on top of your cabinets that I like to refer to as mood lighting. Lights under the upper cabinets which I like to call task lighting. For a while now pendant lights have been very popular and are responsible for both creative lighting and wonderful task lighting when dropped over your bar top. And for those of you who like to go over the top how about a chandelier over your island. If you can have all of these added to your kitchen you will have just changed the ordinary into the extraordinary.

We are in an age now when fluorescent; halogen and incandescent lights are not your only choices. Sooner or later someone somewhere had to invent lights that are more energy efficient and they have. Two of the forerunners are LED and Zenon lights. They come in all sizes, shapes and are for all types of uses. You can get them in cool or warm light to suit your purpose. The Zenon tends to get a bit hot like the halogen and the LED stays cool like the fluorescent. Both give off better light as far as I’m concerned. Both can be put on a dimmer and save on your energy bills.

So take some time and get yourself to a lighting store and let them educate you as to what is available for your home. We recently had a local lighting company come to our showroom and the changes that they made were simple but significant. So brighten up your day and re-light your kitchen.

Happy Thanksgiving with gratitude,
