Appliance Story Part 2
February 1st, 2011
Last month we talked about how appliances can really help to complete your kitchen by both looks and function. I would like to continue this month with more information about appliances that you may not know.
One of the newer items that I am designing into kitchens now is the Drawer style Microwave by Sharp. This is just as it sounds. It takes the place of one large top drawer and opens and closes with the touch of a button. It makes sense and one great thing is, for those of us who are vertically challenged, there will be no more reaching.
Another is the “slide-in” range. It is not that new but most of my customers aren’t familiar with it. For those of us with a free-standing range (which is most of us) this will take the exact same space and power. The difference is it will look like a built-in appliance. Overall you will get the feeling of a cooktop with a custom built-in oven below it. Most of them have the controls along the front eliminating the need to reach over hot burners to adjust your cooking temperatures.
And lastly I have to mention the counter depth refrigerator. The French Door style seems to be taking over the side by side that most of us have now. Counter depth means just that. This unit is designed so that the case is no further off of the back wall than your countertop. The only thing that should be sticking out is the thickness of the door itself. This is winner especially for those of you with small kitchens. It is a major space saver. And you can put a whole pizza box in the French Door style. Now that’s what I’m talking about!
I will leave you with one more thought. The best way to get your kitchen designer to see a therapist is to change your mind about your appliances after the cabinets are ordered.
