Appliance Story Part 1

Kitchen remodels, as I am sure you can guess, involve lots of planning and lots of parts and pieces. Folks tend to get really excited about their granite selection, their cabinet choice and even the sink and faucet that they have always wanted. And yet one of the most important aspects both in looks and in function seems to be largely ignored or simply put into a place of lesser priority.

I speak of appliances. Appliances have come a long way in the past decade or so. The choices that we now have are numerous, varying and can be eye-candy. Appliances have become works of art as far as I’m concerned. Not only do they perform the specific function that you need them for but they can truly look incredibly good in your kitchen. In addition the same four appliances can price out at a few thousand to ten thousand and even more. It all depends on your taste and expectations.

Case in point would be Viking appliances. Some of us think of a Viking Range as more of a luxury item and others could not live without it. But look closely now and you will see that Viking has “kicked it up a notch”. This appliance company has stepped into the 21st century with innovative ideas. They have created a Designer Series to go along with the Professional Series that we have been purchasing for many years. The Designer Series has the Viking quality and name but at a price point that fits most if not all budgets. In addition you can purchase some of their products in any one of 24 colors. So, how would you like to have a dishwasher that is the color “lemonade” or a range that is “racing red”? How do you think that would affect the overall look of your kitchen?

So you see appliances do make a difference. Not only because of the price variances but also because they can and will affect the overall look of your kitchen. So, it’s not just about your beautiful tile backsplash or those gorgeous cherry wood cabinets, it is also about your appliance selection. I personally like the color “sea glass” for my kitchen.
