Cabinet Industry Experts – as featured in Life in Naples magazine – April 2013
April 4th, 2013
Would you hire a podiatrist to perform brain surgery? How about a circus clown to tune up your car? Why not bring in a first grader to engineer the trusses for our new home? The answer (I hope) is “not on your life” which brings us to cabinet industry experts.
What makes a cabinet professional an expert goes much further than showing you door samples, choosing colors and providing a sketch of a proposed kitchen with a dollar amount attached. Although it takes skill to design a kitchen and to be cognizant of the proposed budget I assure you it does not get the job done by itself. The following will explain and help you understand what you should take
note of and also expect when you hire a professional to create your new kitchen or bath.
As you are aware there are a myriad of parts and pieces to your kitchen project. So too must your kitchen designer be aware. Let’s start with the kitchen or bath space. The one thing I ask for every Christmas (and never seem to get) is X-ray vision. It would be wonderful to see through walls and to know the answers to all the questions. The point is there must be at least a basic knowledge of construction and the ability to provide an educated guess. In addition there has to be a working knowledge of plumbing, wall construction and electrical needs among other elements. Knowing that you want a 36” cooktop is simply not enough. In the end game knowledge of how many amps it takes to work is actually more important than the size of the unit itself.
A true professional can handle the design process, the field layout and detail measurements. Following that they should be able to place the order and acknowledge it. Once the order arrives it must be inventoried and inspected for damage before delivery to the job site. A great designer makes themselves readily available for any questions during installation and to make sure no detail is missed. And throughout all of this there should be an open line of communication to you, the homeowner.
These are the established policies at Kitchens by Clay and it keeps our customers coming back again and again. They are truly satisfied not only with the cabinetry project but the long term relationship that has been created.
