Complex Simplicity – Part Two:
June 12th, 2011
Last month I talked about the ever changing world of cabinetry. I discussed the obvious changes over the last couple of decades and where we are now. By that I mean the new concept of “complex simplicity”. Well this term goes much farther than just the overall look as it also refers to what you don’t see.
Now we have kitchen designs that emphasize clean, simple lines that are doing away with the flutes and elaborate moldings. The replacement for these decorative items is cabinetry that has been designed more for your maximum use. I am sure that folks realize that they can have almost any color or door design they desire in their kitchen but please note there are also many new components to improve functionality and storage solutions.
This goes beyond silverware trays and cutlery dividers. Nary has a kitchen has left my place without a double rollout waste/recycle cabinet built into the kitchen. Oh, and there is more. Lazy Susan’s in every corner. They are not like you once knew them. These are now all wood, independently rotate and fill the entire space. How about pantry cabinets that when you pull the door the entire insides come to you on a stainless steel rack system? Everyone’s favorite is the spice cabinet pullout. Once again it is attached to the door and a great way to use 9” of space. These are just a few of the storage solutions that you can choose from for your kitchen remodel.
Complex simplicity. Clean simple lines with maximum engineering of the usable space with storage solutions that once you have them will be very difficult to live without.
