Have You Checked Your Footprint Lately?

Now stop looking at your shoes and there is no need to go outside and stand in the mud. Your footprint is right in front of you. Just go into your kitchen and take a look around. The word ‘footprint” in this case refers to your kitchen layout. Where is your sink located? How about your range or cooktop? How is your refrigerator located in relationship to where you set down your groceries? The big question here is “do you like the existing layout of your kitchen”? If you do and are thinking of remodeling your kitchen you just hit the lottery.

Here is how it works. For example changing your footprint by moving the sink or the double ovens add time and money to your project. Changes will include hidden costs that you need to be aware of. Adding an additional sink to an island involves concrete removal and replacement to code. In addition to the sink, there are fixtures, permits, labor and plumbing costs. This could add up to a sum much larger than anticipated. The solution to save on cost is to maintain your footprint as much as possible.

You might ask what the point is of remodeling your kitchen if you can’t change anything. But you are changing. First and foremost you are getting a new overall look. An expert kitchen designer will be able to transform the look without changing the footprint. You will be able to choose new cabinetry that will suit your storage needs. How about a lazy Susan cabinet in the corner instead of that cabinet that you really can’t use?  Doors and drawers will now close quietly and by themselves. You can have that tray storage cabinet you’ve always wanted. You will have new state of the art appliances. And how about those exotic granite tops? Try an undermount large single bowl sink. Once you do you will never switch back to sinks with center dividers. How about all drawer base cabinets as they are the quintessential one step storage solution. Open the drawer and remove the item. Done!

So, put on your shoes and start looking to make your footprint more exciting.
