Things That Have Me Flummoxed

Over the years in the building industry I have seen and heard so many things that have me bewildered, confounded and confused. I would like to share some of them with you now.

Why would anyone buy the cheapest product they can find for something that should last decades, like a kitchen?

Why do people think they can get an accurate price from someone who has never even seen their kitchen?

Why don’t people really check to see if the quotes are “apples to apples”?

Why would someone higher a handy-man when a general contractor is needed?

Why don’t people appreciate that state and county building codes are in their best interest?

Why do people insist on buying from a “do it yourself” store when they are not do it “yourselfers”?

Why do so few people ask to see licenses and liability insurance certificates?

Why do so few people actually check references?

Why do people ignore referrals from friends and neighbors?

Why do people get 9 bids on a project when all research and everything they have ever heard says three will do?

Why would someone take the absolute lowest bid out of those nine bids?

Why don’t people recognize the importance of making an appointment to discuss something as important as a remodel?

Why does anyone think a verbal price over the telephone is good enough when it comes to work on their home?

And lastly, why do people ask for champagne when all they have is beer money?
